Peer Review(code walkthrough) does not work well for me

1. I do not have enough understanding/appreciate the implemention.
(to have the sort of appreciation, i will be doing it together)
2. It does not leave you to be desirably responsible for the implemention

In conclusion, it becomes another routine to just "walk" through.

There are so much to c#. Programming .Net Components by Juval Lowy is really a good book. It really tells you the pitfalls. I feel it is more like advance C#. I love the book. Read it up.

Purify

Purify helps to detect memory leaks in applications.....
Was running from the command line interface rather than integrating into the development applications. But it does NOT seems to detect anything.

So scourging the web gives me the answer.
I need Purify to instrument the application in precise mode, for that to happen.
I need the "reloc blah blah data" sigh....
And finally, I need to an additional option /Fixed:No
to Configuration Properties -> Command Line -> Additional options.

Starting C#

Am starting with C#...
The difficult part of it... it is know what it has...
There are many times.....
When i am done with a module, it is fustrating to realise that C# had library for it.
For example, was doing a tracing class, and afterwards, i start using log4net.
And in the end, c# had it.

There are the dynamicmethod, anonymous class, delegation and it really nice to work in it...
but the template is HARD. Cos' it really limited of my knowledge to work on it.

I am really greedy, i wanna do what i am able to do in c++.
But C# is really a more comfortable to work with. Though i get awkard when there are many things better done in c++. I really love to be lazy. C# has it.

Be it that M is evil, I get what i wanted.
Learning a new language, is like starting a new life...
Holding on to the past does more harm than good.

Software Design?

Plan and design. That's what they always says. I can see I am pretty bad with this. By the time I got things ready, either I lost the interest or it can never be good enough. Do you know how one can be obsessed with good design, things never seems to be done? How much time it can take to perfect it? At the end of the day, you start to ponder if it is really worth all the effort and time.
I guess we still had to strike a balance somewhere. Just somewhere. And is this enough? Sometimes... it is just never enough.

Ruby + Glade

The document for Ruby + Glade looks better than that for Fox. The best part is that you do not need to regenerate the code after any changes is performed for the GUI.

But Glade is ported to so many language, examples can be confusing at times.... Okie Okie... That's applies to me.. Solely me.

Python + Glade

A colleague shows me how easy you can code mmi with python and glade.
Interesting, hmmm... but i need to shelf it at the moment...
XML huh...

Ruby + Fox

Guess Python is going through a transistion...

Ruby had a better support for Fox at this point of time...
And this really saves a lot of time...
yup... a simple window running on fox and ruby

Python + FOX = FxPy?

Wanted to download some gui tool kit to play with...
So i decided to get started with Python and FOX.
Sadly, FxPy is no longer maintained.
Ruby had got the latest version. But i dun see myself using Ruby in another 2 years time.
So i google on. And i found TnFox, it provides Python binding.

But somehow there is some hackin to the boost lib.
Again, i spend a few nights trying to figure things out.
building boost.python on windows
1) download boost 1.33 or later
2) download the source ( TnFox\Python\BoostPatches.zip to overwrite files in boost -check the directories in the package )
3) download the header ( i did not download this, n got hell of a time)
4) download bjam for the compilation

But things are not smooth, i need to rename the JamFile_win32 to jamfile so that bjam get the correct file. And this had me going in circles and circles. How do you configure bjam to use another Jamfile? Sigh! Sleepless nights...


5) I got lots of link errors, hopefully these are the deliberate ones mentions in the guide.
when i m trying to process, i m required to run Geninterfaces.py
but I dun know where to get it.

Hmmm, Okie, i give up.
I will just get the binary and forget the whole thing.

Perhaps i should dive into ruby.

Windows can be so painful at times

i managed to solve the network issues with the 3.5G connection... but along the way...
i messed up the connectivity for infrared.
Guess it will take forever.

Boost Graph library

Wanna try out the graph library so i happily downloaded the library,
okie -> need boost jam to build
okie -> downloaded boost jam
okie -> build and gotten bjam
okie -> run bjam on boost 1_33
okie -> vc7 needs the include path to compile
okie -> vc7 need the library and path to link
okie -> requires bgl-viz.lib to read graphviz .dot
okie -> does a bjam under boost/libs/graph/built
okie -> vc7 needs to add bgl-viz.lib to the library path
okie -> gotten it compiled.

it is quite abit of effort.
And it took me 2 days.

Python and pspad

Was trying out python.
Too much hype from my colleague, am still trying to figure out tuple, list. dictionary.
Not as great, i need somethings much more simpler... Gosh, am i stupid.

Another thing, was using yapgvb (yet another python graphviz binding) .
Am trying to create the .dot file with the write function,
but it did not managed write correctly to a file(only the last few hundreds of lines)..Sigh.
Phew, it was able to pipe to the standard out. This saves me a lots of work.



It is a really good way to play with python, running with Pspad.

Could not start the HIDSERV service

I did not know when the windows registry got modified.
This is hell to troubleshoot. My USB keyboard, mouse and speaker are crazy.

Hkey_local_machine/system/CurrentControSet/services/hidserv/Parameters
Create Key ServiceDll as a new expandable string
with value %Systemroot%\system32\hidserv.dll

Make sure you have %systemroot%\system32\hidserv.dll

Winsock? IP? What is tat?

Signed up 3.5G plan. SLOW.
I had problem with my windows. Cannot connect. This is hell.

Another 3 days of troubleshooting, I found my solution.
reset winxp tcpip, start a command shell, run>cmd
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

reset winxp winsock2, start a command shell, run>cmd
netsh winsock reset

Restart the system, if it does not work.

Go to device manager, view>show hidden device, Under Network Adapter> Remove WAN miniport (IP)

Add the WAN miniport(IP) through add/remove hardware, under network adapter> wan miniport

It saves me from reinstalling windows. Phew!

3 weeks of grass growing

Sigh... kind of disappointed with the MMI. Anyway, I am glad I managed to do it. Download. Configure, make, make install(root).

Growing Grass...

I hate Linux... but it is some good stuff... But I wanted instant result.
It happened one day when I am running low on disk space and i need to extend the partition of my virtual machine.
As i am running vmplayer, i need to download the server edition to extract the tools, vmare-vdiskmanager. Damm...
After that, i had problem extending the partiton under Linux. i had my partition configured as LVM. Thanks to system-config-lvm under Fedora core, i managed group the volume. Then i extended it with lvextend. lvdisplay indicated the extra space. But the system does not see the extra space. Sigh. In the end, i found that i had to run ext2Online. Finally, the extra space. It took me 3 days just to make some extra space. Windows had made it so easy with 3rd party software. I am such a Linux idiot.

I can move on to grow my Grass.
Hee, hee I am trying to build gis grass.
Sigh need to download....tc/tk... postgre...gdal....fftw....
then ./configure.... make..... make install
can we have it simpler?

Google

Google is amazing... I love google map, google docs and spreadsheet. They really opened my eyes. If internet were to go further, We can see winword disappearing like wordperfect used to disappear. Technology.... sigh.

After effects!

I was told years back that after effects is great. I started off with adobe premiere. And After effects seems too much for a simple person like me. And today i had a chance to create a simple project from it... Wow... trying is believing. It is really great for making effects.

Trapcode is a must to go with it. It is wonderful.
